For days, Coco was hand-fed tiny meals four times a day. Then we carried her into the garden. At first, she could only walk in circles. A few days later, she managed to walk straight.
But our hearts sank when we realized the truth: Coco was completely blind.
And then we noticed something else - something devastating for any dog. She had lost her sense of smell. When food was placed in front of her, she couldn’t locate it at all. That’s why our staff are still hand-feeding her, meal by meal, day after day. We are hoping - praying - that at least some of her senses will return with time.
But one thing is certain: She can never go back to where she was found. She would surely die on that busy road. So, Coco now has a permanent home at the sanctuary. We already have one blind dog here - Frank - and we hope, when Coco is strong enough, that they can live together. But before that can happen, she must gain at least 20 more pounds. |
