Meet little Gherka.

He was just three weeks old. Born into chaos, one of 16 puppies in a home overwhelmed with three mother dogs, Gherka made one innocent mistake…

Hungry, confused, and still blind, he crawled toward the wrong mother for milk - and she bit him.

The attack tore open his fragile body. A piece of his intestine was left exposed. He arrived at our sanctuary filthy, in agony, and clinging to life. He weighed just 1.7 pounds (less than 1 kilo).  He was too weak to even stand. 

But we didn’t give up - and neither did he.

Our exhausted vet team cleaned and dressed his wound, administered pain medication and antibiotics, and took turns feeding him every four hours, even through the night.

There were moments we thought we’d lose him. But Gherka fought with everything he had. Slowly, he began to heal.

Now, this sweet, affectionate pup - who cries to be held and loves nothing more than the warmth of a human hand - is facing another painful hurdle.

Gherka can’t walk.

His shoulder is dislocated. His front legs don’t function properly. He may never walk normally again. He may never be adopted. And he can never, ever return to the place he came from.

But Gherka can still live a beautiful, happy life...

…only if we can raise the funds to continue his treatment, provide lifelong care, and keep him safe here at the sanctuary.
