Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary

I think I ate a bee!

The Sangkhlaburi vets helped me! And my whole family!

Early one morning, two of our volunteers were out for a run when something made them stop cold.

By the side of the road sat a tiny puppy.

His face was grotesquely swollen.

His eyes barely open.

He was struggling – and very much alone.

They ran back to the sanctuary, and within minutes our team returned with medicine, supplies, and that quiet urgency that comes when you know a young life is depending on you.

The puppy was treated immediately. Most likely, he’d suffered a severe allergic reaction – perhaps from an insect bite. His pain eased. His breathing stabilized. What first looked terrifying turned out to be manageable.

Today, that puppy is just fine. (He may have simply eaten a bee!)

But the story didn’t end there.

Nearby, his mother and siblings were living alongside a group of Mon construction workers. So, our team stayed. They checked the rest of the litter. They talked. They listened. And the workers agreed to keep a close eye on the dogs – and to call us immediately if anything changed.

This is how real animal welfare works here.

We don’t just show up once and disappear. We return again and again. We build trust. We work hand-in-hand with the community. We make sure animals aren’t forgotten once the immediate crisis passes.

This kind of work only happens because friends like you make it possible.

Every day in Sangkhlaburi, our phone rings with cases like this: puppies in distress, injured dogs, sick cats – animals with no safety net except us. Thank to the support of friends like you, we can respond quickly. We can ease suffering before it becomes tragedy.

Will you help us be there for the next animal who needs us?

Your gift today helps provide:

  • Emergency medicine and lifesaving treatment
  • Fuel and transport to reach animals in remote areas
  • Ongoing care for street dogs and cats
  • Community outreach that prevents suffering before it starts

Any size donation in any currency makes a difference – because there is no second option.

There is only us.

And friends like you.

Thank you for standing with the animals of Sangkhlaburi – not only in dire, life-or-death moments, but also in the quieter ones, where compassion, experience, and the right medicine change everything.

With heartfelt gratitude,

P.S. Not everyone can bicycle across Europe and Asia to help animals – but every one of us can be part of what happens when they arrive. Your support keeps our clinic doors open, our emergency rescues moving, and our animals alive. Thank you so much for caring. I am deeply grateful.
