We Lost Him. But We Gave Him Love, Dignity, and Peace.
Pet is gone – but others still need you.
Sometimes, even when we pour our hearts into saving a life – with medicine, care, time, and boundless love – it still isn’t enough.
This is the story of Pet. His name means “diamond” in Thai.
We found him alone on the roadside – a tiny, trembling bundle, infested with mange and worms. No one knew where he came from. He was just a puppy, lost and fading.
But thanks to the kindness of people like you, we were able to bring him to safety. We treated his skin, gave him medicine, nourished his little body, and surrounded him with love.
At first, he was shy and unsure. But slowly, Pet began to trust. He wagged his tail. He played. He curled up in bed and slept peacefully. He made a best friend – another rescued pup named Stanza. For the first time in his life, Pet knew what it meant to be safe. To be loved.
Then we noticed the weight loss. Just small amounts at first, but for a growing puppy, even that’s worrying. In our rural clinic, we don’t have expensive diagnostic equipment. So, we made an emergency 8-hour round trip to a specialist hospital.
The news was devastating: kidney failure. Possibly congenital. Possibly caused by something he ate before we found him.
We tried everything. Medications. Fluids. More trips to the hospital. We fought for him with everything we had. But Pet grew weaker.
Last Sunday, too tired to stand, he looked at us – and we knew. We held him close as he slipped away, finally free of pain. He was only 14 months old.
This is the hardest part of rescue. Sometimes, despite everything – medication, vet visits, endless love – we still lose them. But what we can do is make sure they are not alone, and that their final days are filled with safety, warmth, and dignity.
Right now, there are many more animals like Pet in Sangkhlaburi – sick, abandoned, injured, or simply born into a world that doesn’t see them. Puppies born into the dust. Injured dogs limping through the markets. Cats abandoned at temples. Animals with no one but us.
We need your help to give more dogs and cats like Pet that same chance.
Please, will you donate today? Your gift helps us give them a chance – to heal, to trust, to know love. Your gift will help us continue to be there when no one else is. Help us reach them. Help us change their story.
