Every Rescue, Every Surgery, Every Meal – Made Possible by Friends Like You

Please, Help Us Start the New Year Strong!

Every three months, we look forward to sharing the highlights you helped make possible for the rescued dogs and cats in our care. This issue reaches you just after the holidays, and we hope you enjoyed a wonderful season with family, friends, and – of course – your pets. From all of us at the Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary, we send our warmest wishes for a bright, healthy, and hope-filled New Year.

Santa again visited the sanctuary – bringing treats, toys, and plenty of joy to our four-legged residents. Spirits were high, tails were wagging, and the holiday magic was felt by every animal and every member of our team.

A Busy Season of Lifesaving Work

Over the past three months, our little clinic has been bustling – every day, for every animal who needs us!

  • Our vets spayed and neutered more than 200 dogs and cats.
  • We treated another 200+ walk-ins – animals suffering from road accidents, parvo, severe wounds, infections, and more.
  • Our outreach team continued daily visits to the community and temples delivering nearly 1,500 meals to starving street dogs and cats.

A New Arrival

We’re thrilled to share joyful news: our first “sanctuary baby” has arrived – though not literally at the clinic!

Little Woradas, a beautiful baby girl weighing 5.5 pounds, is the daughter of our kennel hand Naing (“Nine”), who has been part of our team for three years. Nine is now on paternity leave to spend time with his daughter and support his wife, Phyo. Congratulations to this wonderful new family!

A Forever Home for Greata and Hammy

Two of our beloved older dogs – Greata and Hammy – have found a forever home with returning volunteers Ben and Gareth. The couple first volunteered with us two years ago and instantly fell in love with Greata. When they learned that Greata and Hammy were inseparable, they decided to adopt both.

At nearly 12 years old, these two have lived at the sanctuary for almost five years. While it is bittersweet to see them go, we are overjoyed knowing that they will spend their twilight years in a loving home in Kanchanaburi.

Volunteers Who Become Family

One of the most heartwarming aspects of sanctuary life is the number of volunteers who return again and again.

Maddie – who travels from Australia – has returned every year except during COVID. She has become part of our extended family. During her latest visit, she arranged for and funded a new shade shelter for the pens where Sandy, Mary, Bear, Bella, Tangy, and Neff live. Her generosity has made the animals’ lives noticeably more comfortable.

In the past three months, several other volunteers have also returned for their second, third, or even fourth time: Sue, Daisy, Megan, and Daniel and his wife Masami from Switzerland (and, of course, their best buddy Biscotte – once a resident of our sanctuary). Their kindness keeps us going.

Farewell, Sweet Gherka

Many of you have followed the journey of our brave little “pickle,” Gherka. Thanks to your kindness, she received a specially designed wheelchair so she could move more freely. But as her condition worsened, we consulted multiple veterinary experts.

All agreed on the same difficult truth: Gherka suffered from a severe, progressive neurological disorder. Her neck bones had not – and would never – develop properly. Continuing treatment would have meant increasing, unrelenting pain.

Letting her go was heartbreaking, but it was the most compassionate choice. Gherka now rests in our garden cemetery, forever close to the people who loved her. Her wheelchair has been stored with care, ready for the next dog who needs it.

Thank You!

As always, THANK YOU for standing with us. Every rescue, every recovery, and every small miracle here is made possible by people like you – people who believe that compassion should have no borders.

With heartfelt gratitude,

P.S. As we welcome a new year, we hope you’ll continue to stand with us. Your support makes our lifesaving work possible every single day. If you’re able, please consider a special New Year gift to help us begin 2026 strong – for the animals who depend on us. Happy New Year from all of us at the sanctuary.
