Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary

Not All Animal Groups Are the Same – Here’s What Sets us Apart

We’re Not the Biggest – But We’re Among the Most Effective

Every so often, someone asks us: “What makes your sanctuary different? What distinguishes you from other organizations that help animals? Why should someone choose to donate to you rather than to another?”

These are fair questions – and important ones.

So let us be clear: We would never discourage anyone from supporting other animal organizations. Abused and abandoned animals need all the help they can get. Every effort matters.

But the Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary IS different – and we believe deeply worthy of your support. Here’s why:

We are lean, local, and laser-focused

Our mission is tightly focused and lifesaving: rescue suffering street dogs and cats, provide free surgery if needed, offer medicine, nutritious food, and run urgently needed spay/neuter clinics in one of the poorest, most remote regions of Thailand. That’s it. That’s our entire focus – and we do it 24/7, with heart.

We don’t pay inflated salaries

Unlike some large animal protection groups where CEOs earn over $1 million a year and donor funds cover luxury hotels and flights, nearly 100% of your donation goes straight to the animals – not bureaucracy. We are extremely cost-effective. No waste. No fluff. Just impact.

We do it ALL ourselves

We don’t funnel donations through “partners” or skim large percentages before the work begins. We do the work directly – in the mud, holding the leashes, feeding the puppies, comforting the scared and wounded, performing the surgeries. No middlemen. No re-granting. No dilution of impact.

We are powered by volunteers

Our veterinarians, nurses, and most daily caregivers donate their time, skill, and love because they believe in this mission. It’s not just a job. It’s a calling. We pour everything we have into this work because we love it – and because these animals need us

We work where no one else does

Sangkhlaburi is hours from the nearest vet. There’s no other safety net. No government funding. Without us, injured and starving animals here have nowhere to go. For many, we are their only hope.

But we can’t do this alone.

It costs us $2,800 USD (£2,100) every single month – $100 a day (£75) – just to cover basic sanctuary operations: food, electricity, clean water, and essential medicines. That doesn’t include emergency rescues, urgent surgeries, life-changing spay/neuter clinics, or unseen disasters like roof collapses during monsoon season.

We stretch every donation like it’s our last. But we still need your support. We’re not the biggest – but we just might be one of the most effective, most transparent, and most dedicated you’ll ever support.

We help dogs in need. Cats in crisis. And only thanks to the generosity of people like you is anything we do possible.

Our animals are healthy, happy and loved. We find them forever homes.

Our volunteers (from all over the world) return, again and again.

We DO stand apart – as do many organizations.  But we ARE different in many ways.

So, if you believe in helping where help is rare… if you want your gift to go as far as it possibly can… if you want to make a real, tangible difference in the life of an animal who has no one else… please, donate today.

We can only continue to make a lifesaving and life-changing difference with your help.

You can count on us to be honest with you and put the animals first.  Always!  This is our solemn pledge.

With heartfelt gratitude,

P.S. We’re not backed by corporations. We don’t receive government funding. We rely entirely on compassionate people like you. Please, if you’re able, donate today. $100 (£75) keeps the sanctuary running for a full day. $25 (£19) feeds a litter of puppies. $10 (£7.50) buys life-saving antibiotics. No amount is too small. Every donation matters.  Every bit helps!
