EXTRAORDINARY ACHIEVEMENT in one of the most remote places on the planet!
197 spay/neuter surgeries. Your support makes it possible.
If you share your home with a dog or a cat, or several, you know how expensive spaying and neutering can be. And costs are escalating. Depending on location, a private veterinarian will charge upwards of $500 (£375) or more for a single procedure.
At the Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary we provide these essential surgeries for FREE and it’s only thanks to the generosity of our supporters that we can do so. But it’s not free for us. On average, our costs for medicines and supplies run approximately $65 (£50) per animal.
Recently, we performed 197 spay and neuters during an intensive 4-day clinic. Never have so many dogs and cats been helped in our remote area in such a short period, let alone in an even more remote area – among the Karen Hill Tribes. This is where we’ve been…

As you know, spay/neuter is vital for controlling pet overpopulation. It also offers significant health benefits, like lowering the risk of certain cancers and infections, and can improve behavior by reducing roaming, marking, and aggression. Since our founding, this work has been at the heart of our mission: preventing suffering before it begins – preventing as many unfortunate souls as possible from being born into a life of homelessness.
The Karen communities live deep in forested terrain, connected by rough, pathetically inadequate roads and narrow mountain trails. There are no veterinarians. No clinics. No safety net. As a result, dogs and cats reproduce unchecked – leading to suffering, disease, and growing pressure on the fragile forest ecosystem and local wildlife. Even most pets roam freely, leading to unwanted litters and hygiene issues.
Not only did our team sterilize nearly 200 dogs and cats, we also inoculated against rabies and performed a few emergency surgeries. The total cost to us was almost $13,000 (about £10,000) but the impact on animal welfare, public health, and the environment is immeasurable.
The need continues – and we’re committed to meeting it.
Today, I am asking for your urgent help to replenish our medical supplies so we can continue these vital clinics. We must restock essential items like xylazine and propofol for sedation, rabies vaccines, sutures, gauze, and other critical supplies before the next call for help comes in.
Yes, what we provide is always free to those we serve. It prevents lives of hardship, pain, and neglect. But none of it is free to us.
Our spay/neuter missions, emergency rescues, sanctuary care, and volunteer-run clinic exist only because compassionate people like you make them possible.
Please be as generous as you can today. Your support directly funds the surgeries, medicines, and supplies that stop suffering at its source.
With heartfelt gratitude,

P.S. Every $65 (£50) gift or the equivalent in any currency covers the cost of spaying or neutering one dog or cat. Your donation today helps ensure we’re ready – with supplies stocked and teams prepared – when the next remote village asks for help.
