Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary

Thanks to friends like you, we gave Biscotte comfort and a home.

Today, she has a wonderful forever family in Switzerland!

Most rescued dogs tremble when they’re brought back to the place that was once all they knew. They’re afraid. They think they’re being left behind again.

But not Biscotte!

Every year, this sweet little dog – now almost ten years old – runs back through the gate of the Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary with her tail spinning like a propeller. She pulls Daniel and his wife Masami down the familiar walkway, eager to greet old friends.

This reaction is rare. It says something profound about what this sanctuary is: a place where animals feel safe. A place where they are cared for, healed, and loved. A place they remember – not with fear, but with joy.

Biscotte arrived as a tiny puppy after her mother died. A volunteer vet from France gave her the name “Biscotte,” after the beloved French cookie. No one knew what her future would be.

Then came Daniel and Masami.

They had been coming to Sangkhlaburi for years without knowing a sanctuary existed – until they saw a sign at the guesthouse where they were staying. On their second day volunteering, they met Biscotte… and she made sure Daniel wouldn’t forget her. Biscotte gave him a nip on the leg – three puncture wounds that took days to heal.

But instead of scaring him off, it sealed a bond.

As Daniel recalls, the real turning point was seeing the words on the back of one of our staff’s sanctuary shirt: “Adopt Don’t Shop.”

“It changed everything,” he says.

When Daniel and Masami returned home, Daniel emailed to say they wanted to adopt. Which dog did they want?

“It’s Biscotte!” was his immediate reply.

Soon, Daniel and Masami returned to Sangkhlaburi to officially adopt her. For nearly seven years now, Biscotte has lived an extraordinary life in Switzerland – cherished, safe, adored.

And every year, Daniel and Masami bring Biscotte back to the sanctuary that saved her. She remembers the paths. She remembers the people. She remembers the love.

Daniel and Masami say: “It was the best thing we ever did.”

Stories like this are made possible because our sanctuary exists. Because people like you help keep our tiny clinic open, keep food and medicine stocked, and keep our team ready for the next puppy or abandoned or injured dog or cat who arrives alone – just like Biscotte once did.

But we cannot continue without your support.

Will you help us give more dogs and cats the same chance Biscotte had?

Your gift today makes sure frightened, injured, and abandoned animals have a safe place to heal… and maybe even discover their own Daniel and Masami.

Please donate today if you can.

Your compassion truly changes lives – sometimes across continents, and sometimes for nearly a decade of happiness.

With heartfelt gratitude,

PS: Innocent animals like the brave young dog whose life we saved and poor Pus Pus the cat don’t choose danger – but they depend on us when it finds them. If you can, please donate today. Your gift helps ensure we’re ready for the next emergency, the next innocent life in crisis, the next animal who has no one else.
