Frank was found starving, blind, and broken…
He didn’t quit. Neither did we. We NEVER will!
When the call came in, there was very little hope.
An ex-volunteer – back in Sangkhlaburi for just a few days – had found a dog lying in the road outside a small garage. No one knew what had happened to him. He couldn’t move. He couldn’t lift his head. He was barely alive.

Because of supporters like you, we were able to respond immediately.
One of our veterinarians jumped on a motorcycle and went to assess him. The situation was grim. The dog – now known as Frank – was so weak that euthanasia was discussed as a possibility. But at Sangkhlaburi, we never make that decision without first giving an animal a chance.

Frank was brought back to the sanctuary.
What we found was heartbreaking.
He was severely emaciated – starving. His back leg had clearly been broken at some point and left to heal on its own, leaving it badly deformed. He was blind, or nearly so. And despite the leg injury, that wasn’t why he couldn’t walk. He was simply too weak to even hold his head up.
For days, our team fought for him.
Frank was hand-fed. He received treatment around the clock. Our vets monitored him constantly. But after four days… then five… there was almost no improvement. He lay quietly, exhausted, as if he had already given up.
A difficult meeting was held.
With heavy hearts, our veterinary team decided that if there was no change by the end of the next working day – when there would be no interruptions – Frank would be allowed to go peacefully.
The medications were prepared.
And then something extraordinary happened.
When our vet went into the recovery room at the end of the day…
Frank was standing. Not only standing – he was wagging his tail.

He had made the decision himself to LIVE!
Today, Frank can walk – slowly, carefully, but on his own. He is still blind, though we believe he can see shadows. He is gentle, affectionate, and deeply people oriented. His teeth are in terrible shape from long-term hunger, making it hard to know his age – but we believe he is not old. Just worn down by neglect and hunger.
Frank will stay with us until, hopefully, we can find him a forever home.
Soon, he will learn something entirely new: that food will come every day… that he doesn’t have to fight to survive… and that he is safe and loved.
This is what your support makes possible…
Not just rescues – but resolve.
Not just treatment – but the refusal to give up when hope is fragile.
Not just survival – but the chance for an animal to be safe, happy and thrive!
- $35 helps provide emergency food, fluids, and basic medications
- $50 helps cover diagnostic tests, wound care, and follow-up treatment
- $100 helps fund several days of intensive veterinary care and handfeeding
- $250 or more helps ensure we can say “yes” when the next Frank is found lying in the road
Thank you so much for being the reason Frank is alive today!
With heartfelt gratitude,
