Our small staff is our backbone – they make EVERYTHING happen!
Yet, all that they do depends on YOU.
Fundraisers will tell you never to ask donors to support staff. “People want their donations to help animals – not pay people.”
So, for years, I’ve never asked.
But today, I hope you’ll read just a little further…
As you know, we operate in an incredibly remote and impoverished area of Thailand. For many animals – and even for the surrounding community – our sanctuary and free veterinary clinic are the only place to turn.
Nothing we do would be possible without the extraordinary generosity of our supporters around the world. Truly – everything begins with you.
And yet… it is our staff who make everything happen.
Nearly everything we raise goes directly to rescuing, feeding, treating, and protecting dogs and cats. We are incredibly frugal – almost every donation goes straight to the animals.
We keep costs rock-bottom low in a way few organizations can: we rely almost entirely on volunteers. Veterinarians, vet nurses, and caregivers come from around the world to give their time freely.
But there are a few people we simply cannot do without: our small local team. They are our heartbeat.
Our dogs and cats LOVE them!
They are the ones who show up every single day – six days a week – to feed, clean, comfort, and care for the animals who depend on us. They are the ones who go out into the night to rescue injured dogs and cats. They are the ones who feed starving strays in the surrounding community. They bathe the dogs, walk the dogs, and take them to the river to splash and play. They do the hardest work… quietly, compassionately, without fail.
There are just three of them. They are, quite simply, the backbone of everything we do.
Without them, we could not help animals.

And yet… they earn just $10 a day. In five years, they have never received an increase. They have never complained.
But that doesn’t make it right. AND make no mistake – by paying them we aren’t taking a penny away from a single dog or cat!
So today, I am asking for something I have never asked for before. I want to give them a small cost-of-living adjustment. Nothing extravagant. Just something fair. Something respectful.
Because THEY are the animals’ friends. THEY are their caregivers. THEY make it all happen.
And for the animals? It means the people who feed them, clean them, sit with them, and love them can continue to be there, day after day.
If you believe, as I do, that the fundraisers are WRONG – and caring for animals also means caring for the people who make that care possible…
Please consider donating today.
With heartfelt gratitude,

PS – This may not be a typical appeal, but it is honest. The lifesaving work we do every day depends on our small compassionate and loving staff. Paying them a little bit better is not depriving our animals of anything – indeed, a small increase for three dedicated staff will change lives – both human and animal. I hope you’ll be part of it.
