Five years ago, our sanctuary didn’t exist… we turned ruins into refuge!

Five years ago, what is now the Sangkhlaburi Animal Sanctuary was nothing more than an abandoned, crumbling boat yard – silent for nearly a decade, leaking roofs, broken structures, and no sign of life. Today, it is something entirely different: a place of safety, healing, and second chances for animals who had nowhere else to go.

Together – with people like you – we built this sanctuary and clinic from scratch. We repaired roofs that could barely keep out the rain. We created a fully equipped treatment room to handle emergencies. We set up a kitchen so volunteers could prepare food for hungry dogs and cats. Shade structures rose where there had been none. Air conditioning made it possible for sick animals to recover and for volunteers to rest.

Piece by piece, compassion turned ruins into refuge.

What we have achieved in just five years is nothing short of extraordinary…

EVERYTHING was made possible by our supporters!

Almost 13,000 sterilizations have prevented untold numbers of unwanted litters, suffering and death. Dozens of spay/neuter camps have reached remote communities with no veterinary care. Regular rabies vaccination outreach programs have protected both animals and people. Thousands of walk-in patients – many in desperate condition – have received treatment. Of course, we priortize community education for families and children – we provide practical support that helps people learn to care more humanely for the animals who share their lives.

Countless meals have been prepared for our resident dogs alone – many more have been delivered daily to street animals who would otherwise go hungry.

Dogs and cats have found forever homes as far away as Canada, France, and the UK.

Not every story has had a happy ending. We have mourned the loss of seven beloved residents whose time with us was too short. But they were not alone. They were loved. They mattered. Our supporters made this possible.

Today, while waiting adoption our dogs (and cats) call the sanctuary home, each with their own story of survival. And every day, more animals in crisis still need help.

As we mark our FIVE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY on May 1 we are not celebrating buildings or numbers.

We are celebrating the simple, powerful truth that compassion can transform lives – animal and human alike.
